YIG Volunteer Conference Governor's Cabinet Application Form
The Governor’s Cabinet is the Executive Branch of the Tennessee State Government. Students applying to serve on the Governor’s Cabinet will be chosen to serve as a commissioner of a specific department, i.e. Commissioner of Education. Students applying for a Governor’s Cabinet position must have attended one prior YIG conference and served in the House or Senate. Limit 2 Governor’s Cabinet members per school.
Governor’s Cabinet members are expected to thoroughly research their Departments and act as expert advisers to the Governor about the programs and funding in their Departments. They will be actively engaged in the budget process and writing of legislation during the entire conference. They will hear from bill sponsors as a bill moves through its path on the way to law, and they will help the governor decide whether or not the bill should become law. Governor’s Cabinet members will also have the opportunity to meet with their real Tennessee state government counterparts, schedule permitting.
Prior to the conference, Governor’s Cabinet members are expected to complete a pre-conference assignment that will be emailed upon their selection to serve on the Governor’s Cabinet. Failure to submit this pre-conference assignment will result in removal from the Governor’s Cabinet.
